Town of Mount Royal, June 21, 2007 - Trees play an essential role in the Mount Royal community. To support the recent launch of its Tree Policy, the Town invites residents to take part in the first edition of a contest aimed at recognizing the best looking tree in the municipality on private property. The nomination period for the contest runs from June 21 to August 21, 2007.
Will the winning tree be leafy? Flowery? Or a hundred years old? Theoretically, residents can choose from among the over 10,000 candidates located on private property, therefore excluding trees located in parks or in the Town’s other green spaces.
All species are eligible. However, any tree being nominated must be representative of its species, without having been manicured or topped off, and it must also be in good condition. Furthermore, only trees that have reached maturity will be considered.
A panel of judges, made up mainly of the members of the Town’s Environmental and Sustainable Development Advisory Committee, will select the best looking tree among all entries and will unveil the winner during the Fall Fair on September 29, 2007. The owner of the selected tree will receive a prize.
Residents wishing to take part in the contest can register their favourite tree by downloading the official entry form at www.town.mount-royal.qc.ca. They can also obtain an entry form in Town buildings. Photos of the trees registered in the contest will be posted on the Web.
