Car idling is something we often do without even thinking about it. Idling burns a large amount of fuel and adversely affects the air quality and the health of all citizens.
In an approach to promote the development of a healthy and sustainable environment, Mount Royal elected representatives have adopted an anti-idling by-law. In enacting such by-law, the Town Council also wishes to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases, which are responsible for climate changes.
In effect since April 27, 2006, this by-law is basically designed to restrict the allowable idling time for all motor vehicles, including the municipal fleet. The by- law however provides exceptions in certain circumstances (for example, when the outside temperature is below -10°C) and for some vehicles such as emergency vehicles and taxis.
