The Mount Royal public sewer and water mains networks each total 90 km of conducts. They are checked regularly by outside specialists, contracted by the Engineering division, particularly for the sampling of the drinking water, the rinsing of the water mains and the examination of the networks’ aging status.
If, following an examination of the conducts, a problem is detected that can be handled locally, the file is passed along to Public Works for correction. In the case of an emergency on the aqueduct network, the intervention is performed four to eight hours after being pointed out.
Furthermore, all over Mount Royal territory, the normal maintenance and replacement of sewer network and water distribution system components, such as catch basins and manholes, are also assumed by Public Works. Approximately thirty such replacements are made each year.
Major restoration work is usually confined to the Engineering division for detailed planning of the interventions required and possible need for outside assistance. In that case, residents or businesses affected by the work are notified by an Info construction letter.
During renovation or construction work, it is essential to make a request for a permit for the installation of a new sewer and/or water main connection, if necessary. The owner or his/her representative can make the request to the Engineering division of the Town of Mount Royal Technical Services Department, using the document below as a guide.
